What if city technologies could better reflect diverse human needs from the start?
Building on insights from the earlier report “I want to go there now”, this new publication continues the exploration of how Citiverse technologies can shape more inclusive and user-centered experiences.
Through speculative design ideas, the report examines how a combination of digital twins, real-time data, immersive environments, and AI can contribute to more inclusive cities and everyday experiences. Grounded in principles of universal design, the work highlights new ways these technologies can support accessibility and participation.
Using scenario cards, user journeys and 'what if' thinking, during workshops led by project partner Our Normal Association, participants from plenty of the project partners contributed to this work. The speculative design method creates opportunities to test situations in advance, improve accessibility and safety, support planning and decision-making, and engage citizens in new ways. The aim during the workshops was not to predict the future, but to explore possibilities and spark discussion: What if city technologies could better reflect diverse human needs from the start?
The ideas are not finished solutions – they are starting points for discussion, exploration, and further development. By focusing on lived experiences and diverse needs, the project demonstrates how emerging technologies can help create cities that are not only smarter, but more inclusive and human-centered.
